Mother's Day
May 13, 2003
Singer: If I could see the world as you do mama, I would if I could be as warm and as true mama, I would you're the angel on my shoulder you're the prayer in my eye you're the gentle spirit movin' in me no matter how near no matter how far
Nora: Hey.
Matthew: Happy Mother's Day, mom.
Nora: Oh. Thank you, sweetheart.
Matthew: This is for you.
Nora: Oh, my, my. It looks good enough to eat.
Matthew: I wanted this to be the best Mother's Day ever.
Nora: It already is.
*~*
Nora: Yeah, so the plot thickens with Mitch Lawrence, huh?
Bo: Yeah, hank will bring you up to speed on all that, but before I go, Nora --
Nora: Yeah?
Bo: Happy mother's day.
Nora: Thanks, Bo.
Bo: That little Matthew's a lucky guy.
Nora: Yeah. More than he knows.
Matthew: I made you breakfast. All your favorites.
Nora: All my favorites? Oh, Matthew! And all the food groups.
Hank: So, I understand we got a statement out of Craig Lombard.
Bo: Yeah, just before he dropped dead. So now it's murder, Hank.
Hank: Yeah, well, not that it makes much difference with Lawrence dead.
Bo: Well, I guess it's one way to end it and makes it easy for us. Is this the evidence from last night?
Hank: Yeah, yeah. The same theater where Lawrence held Blair.
Mitch's voice: My name is Mitch Lawrence. I need to unburden myself. I need to confess.
Hank: Yeah, he confesses to just about everything.
Bo: Yeah. Antonio told me.
Hank: Mm-hmm. I guess he couldn't live with what he'd done.
Bo: Yeah, but why now, Hank? You know, after all of these years, this guy finally gets everything that he always wanted.
Hank: I don't know. Maybe it was the accident, you know, him going blind. He had it all, Bo, and he'd never be able to see it.
Bo: And he confessed? I mean, this is Mitch Lawrence.
Hank: Well, he thought of himself as a religious man. Maybe facing his maker did a number on him.
Bo: Ah. Maybe.
Hank: Thanks.

[Doorbell rings]
Dorian: I -- I'm sorry, honey. I have to get that.
Bo: Hello, Dorian. Mind if we come in?
Dorian: Of course, Bo.
Bo: Why, Cassie. Didn't know you were here. Nice to see you.
Cassie: Nice to see you, too, Bo. Antonio.
Antonio: Cassie.
Bo: Dorian, I'm afraid we have some news about your husband.
Dorian: Oh? What about him?
Bo: Well, I'm sorry to have to tell you, but we're now working under the assumption that Mitch is dead.
Dorian: Oh, n-- oh, no. Oh, my. Oh -- it can't be true. What happened?
Bo: Well, let me ask you this first, Dorian -- where were you last night?
*~*
Nora: Good to see you, Joey. Come on in.
Joey: Hey, Nora. Sorry to bust on your Mother's Day.
Nora: Hi.
Flash: Hi.
Nora: No.
Matthew: Joey!
Joey: Hey! What's happening? Flash, this is Matthew, and this is his mom I told you about, Nora.
Flash: Hi.
Nora: Hi. It's nice to meet you, Flash.
Flash: Oh, it's nice to meet you, too. Thank you. Thank you so much for doing this. Thank you.
Nora: Sure.
Joey: This guy is really interested in Flash's band.
Nora: Ok.
Joey: He wants them to cut a C.D.
Nora: Ah.
Matthew: You make C.D.s?
Flash: Oh, well, not yet.
Matthew: Have a new Captain Crab C.D. You want to hear it?
Flash: Sure. Ok.
Joey: Thanks a lot for doing this, Nora.
Nora: Yeah. Well, you know, musicians' contracts are not my forte, but a contract is a contract, so I will -- I'll look it over, and then I'll drop it off. Ok. Where does she live?
Joey: Actually, nowhere. She's been staying in a cargo container, but that's not really an option anymore.
Nora: Is she homeless? Runaway? Where's her family?
Jo: She doesn't talk about them if she has one.
Nora: My God. I would never let Rachel be out on her own that young.
Joey: Yeah, well, another difference. She doesn't have a mom like you.
Nora: Well, at least she's got a good friend like you.
Joey: I wish I had a place to offer her, you know? I mean, she just got out of the hospital.
Nora: What happened?
Joey: She's anemic and she's recovering from pneumonia. She also did some damage to her vocal cords.
Nora: Well, what about the contract? Is that going to affect it?
Joey: No, no. This guy has a specialist, but she can't sing yet, and so, you know, until then --
Matthew: Mommy --
Nora: Yeah.
Matthew: Flash is really cool.
Nora: Really?
Matthew: Can she babysit me?
Nora: Well, what about Marianne?
Matthew: She can help Marianne.
Nora: Oh, well, there's an idea. What do you say, Flash? I mean, Marianne would be here and she'd be responsible, but, you know, you could make it a trio. As a matter of fact, actually, why don't you just stay over, you know? It's not elaborate. It's an assistant District Attorney's house, but it's -- there's a spare room.
Flash: You're kidding, right?
Nora: It's Mother's Day. Indulge me.
Matthew: Please?
Flash: I don't -- I don't understand.
Joey: Oh, it sounds like a plan to me. I mean, unless you have a better offer.
Flash: Oh, oh, I guess I can give it a shot.
Matthew: Yes!
Nora: Hey.
*~*
Antonio: So you were nowhere near that theater last night?
Dorian: No. Why would I be? Are you saying that you think my husband -- I'm sorry. This is really very difficult for me. Have you found his body?
Bo: Did you see Lindsay Rappaport last night?
Dorian: I was at St. Ann's, if that's what you're asking. Yes, I was visiting my sister Addie. I got permission for her to come here today.
Antonio: Dorian, why did you leave the hospital so soon after being shot?
Cassie: What? Mother, you were shot at?
Dorian: Oh, please. You are uselessly upsetting her. Darling, it was nothing. My shoulder was just grazed.
Cassie: Well, who shot you?
Dorian: Oh, I haven't the vaguest idea.
Bo: What about Mitch?
Dorian: My own husband?
Bo: It's been known to happen.
Antonio: Yeah, maybe you wanted to get back at him, so you lured him to the theater last night.
Dorian: If I really thought my husband was trying to kill me, I would have gone as far away from him as possible.
Bo: Well, I guess that's all the questions we have for you right now. And again, Dorian, I am sorry for your loss. I can tell you're really broken up.
Antonio: Ladies.
Antonio: This yours?
Dorian: Yes. Why?
Antonio: Nice jacket.
Bo: So long.
Cassie: You did it, didn't you? You killed Mitch.
*~*
Bo: Take a look at this.
Antonio: Oh, what was it?
Bo: It was upstairs where Lawrence allegedly jumped. What about that button? Where'd you find that?
Antonio: It was right over there. I got something else.
Bo: What's that?
Antonio: Witnesses.
*~*
Nora: Well, when you see him, tell him that we're going to have to meet him later on, ok?
Hank: Yeah.
Gabrielle: Excuse me. Are you two going to keep Bo for the entire first day that he's home?
Nora: I'm sorry, Gabrielle. It's this Mitch Lawrence thing.
Gabrielle: I understand. Happy Mother's Day.
Nora: Oh, I know. You, too.
Gabrielle: Ok.
Hank: Bye. Have a seat.
Nora: Thanks.
Hank: May I have one of these for her, please?
Nora: Oh, thank you.
Hank: You're welcome. All right, listen, before I forget --
Nora: Mm-hmm?
Hank: To the best mother my daughter could ever have.
Nora: That's sweet. You know, she called. Rachel called.
Hank: Really?
Nora: Yeah.
Hank: How's she doing?
Nora: She's doing good. I miss her a lot.
*~*
Bo: So you say that you saw a man fall in the river?
Man: Yeah. I mean, we tried to go and get help, but we couldn't find anyone.
Second man: Yeah, when we got back, most of the cars were gone and there was nobody there.
Antonio: "Most of the cars"?
Bo: How many cars?
Man: I think three.
Second man: Yeah, that's right, three.
Bo: All right, would you speak to that officer right out there? She'll take your statements. Maybe she'll ask you a few more questions, ok? Thank you.
Antonio: You know, when I got here last night, there was only one car. The car Lawrence was driven in.
Bo: So that means more cars, more people. So either those people witnessed Lawrence's death or they may have caused it.
