The Bump

March 3, 2003

Radio announcer: After dark, we lose our bearings. And on the worst nights, we find ourselves holding on for dear life. If you're all alone tonight, holding on, just curl up with whatever it is you love best, and we'll keep the fires burning together.

[Music plays]

[Gabrielle turns up music]

[Gabrielle screams]

Gabrielle: Oh!

Bo: I'm sorry.

Gabrielle: What?

[Bo turns down music]

Bo: I said I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Gabrielle: You startled me.

Bo: What, is this the -- is this the style editor at work?

Gabrielle: Oh! I didn't think you were going to be home tonight. I'm so scruffy.

Bo: No, wait -- where are you going?

Gabrielle: I'm going to get changed.

Bo: No. I am not letting you out of my sight.

*~*

Nora: Oh.

Matthew: Mommy!

Nora: Hey! Oh. There's my boy. Hello. Ooh, yes!

Ah. You're exactly what the doctor ordered.

*~*

Gabrielle: I -- I thought about calling you at the precinct, but then I remembered that it was Mitch Laurence's hearing today.

Bo: Well, honey, do me a favor -- let's not mention Laurence's name, ok? Just not tonight.

Gabrielle: Did the judge give him bail? Oh, no.

Bo: Well --

Gabrielle: It couldn't be possible. I mean, he kidnapped Blair and he tried to get somebody to kill Natalie.

Bo: I know, see, but he had a good lawyer, you know. Surprise, surprise. And the system is set up so --

Gabrielle: You're innocent until proven guilty.

Bo: Yeah.

Gabrielle: Oh. I'm so sorry. You must feel awful about this.

Bo: Well, let's just say that I have felt better.

Gabrielle: Hey, roomie?

Bo: Hmm?

Gabrielle: You know, you're not supposed to fix everything -- at least not tonight.

Bo: I know, but, see, this thing and this man --

Gabrielle: Shh. You can start over tomorrow.

Bo: Mm-hmm. I don't like leaving you alone so much.

Gabrielle: I have never in my life felt so less alone than I do now. Right this minute, I'm not alone.

Bo: Sounds good to me. So, what -- what are you doing here? What is this?

Gabrielle: Oh, this is the Sunday style section that I've been looking at for hours now and I still can't find a way to make it fit.

Bo: You need a hand?

Gabrielle: You're joking. Sorry.

Bo: No, no. You know, as long as it doesn't include a subpoena, I -- I could do something.

Gabrielle: All right. You're on. You're on. Fresh cup of tea coming up.

Bo: Ok.

Gabrielle: Coffee for you. Right.

Bo: Good.

Gabrielle: What?

Bo: Damn. You know what? I -- I left the office so fast, I forgot to call Nora. This will just take a second, and then I'm all yours.

*~*

Nora: Oh. Thanks. I think that's exactly what I needed.

Matthew: Are you sad?

Nora: A little.

Matthew: Well, maybe you can change your mind and marry Dr. Troy.

Nora: I don't think so, sweetie. I'm sorry. I know how much you liked Dr. Troy.

Matthew: I still do. Is that bad?

Nora: No, no, that's not bad. You can like whoever you want to like.

Matthew: Did I make you cry?

Nora: No, sweetheart, no. I just had kind of a rough day at my new job. I went in front of a Judge. Could have gone better.

Matthew: Well, maybe you can try again tomorrow.

Nora: That is the best advice I have ever heard. So, did you learn anything new at school today? Hmm?

Matthew: The bump.

Nora: The what?

Matthew: It's a dance. Mrs. Harner said you'd know it from the old days.

Nora: Oh, of course -- the old days. Yes, as a matter of fact, I do remember that. And I bet I have a few moves that Ms. Harner never even dreamed of. So, come on. Up here. Show me what you got. Go ahead -- show me what you got.

Matthew: I can't do it without music.

Nora: Music. Coming right up. I bet I have some oldies so that we can do that.

[Phone rings]

Nora: Nora Buchanan.

Bo: Hi. It's Bo. Thanks.

Gabrielle: Mm-hmm.

Bo: Listen, I'm sorry to disturb you, but this guy Sanders -- he's the director of the Coleman clinic. Well, he faxed me an affidavit, and it just flat out implicates Laurence.

Nora: Yahoo.

Bo: Yeah. Yeah. It looks like we're still in the ballgame, huh?

*~*

Gabrielle: You're not into the style section, are you, at all?

Bo: No, no, no, no, whatever interests you interests me, and this is -- this is really interesting.

Gabrielle: I love you. I love you. And I want to thank you for trying to help me. Listen, it is quite apparent that I'm not going to get any work done. I think that we both should do something that we would both enjoy.

*~*

[Music plays]

Matthew: Play it again, mom!

Nora: Oh, again? Oh. Ok. One more time. Ms. Harner is a marked woman, that's for sure.

[Phone rings] Ooh. Nora Buchanan. Hank. Impeccable timing. On what grounds? I'm on my way. Sweetie, come here. Come here. That was work, ok? I have to go out for a little while. But I promised you a dance, a bump, and you're going to get one -- with Marianne.

Matthew: Marianne?

Nora: Yeah, with Marianne! But I promise, when you go back to bed, I will be home to tuck you in. Ok?

Matthew: Thanks for the dance, mommy.

Nora: Scoots. Entirely my pleasure.

*~*

[Knock on door]

Nora: Bo? It's Nora. Are you there? Please be there.

Bo: Hey, Nora.

Nora: Oh, thank God you're here. Ok, Hank just called. You're not going to believe -- oh. I'm very sorry.

Gabrielle: It's all right, no, really.

Nora: I wouldn't have barged in if it wasn't important. I really wouldn't have.

Gabrielle: It's all right. Would you like a drink or a cup of tea?

Nora: No, thank you. No, thank you. Really.

Bo: What's up?

Nora: Hank called. Mitch Laurence's attorney -- she's going to court to have the charges dismissed.

Bo: On what grounds?

Nora: Well, apparently, the Jason's Landing police department made some sort of procedural error. Bo, it's half our case.

Bo: Yeah, but can Williamson make that argument?

Nora: Well, it was my impression that the Jason's Landing police department wasn't really a force to be reckoned with.

Bo: They do ok, you know. And it was their jurisdiction.

Nora: Ok. Well, I guess we still have Starr's attempted kidnapping and Blair's abduction and Jen's testimony.

Bo: If we can get Jen to talk.

Gabrielle: I wouldn't count on that. Sorry.

Nora: No. Gabrielle's right. I have to be able to use the attempted murder, Bo. I mean, what Mitch Laurence tried to do to Natalie is so sick, I have to be able to use it. Otherwise, even if we do get him put away, he'll be out in a few years. And God help your family when that happens.
