Chapter Four:
Gabrielle paces impatiently in Larry’s office waiting for him to return from seeing a patient. She needed a document from him for their lawsuit against Deke and Madison. She glanced at her watch and sighed, she was late meeting Bo at his office. He had called and left her a message about meeting him in his office and she hated to be late. She walked behind Larry’s desk deciding to look for the document herself; she was tired of waiting. She began picking up files and papers off his desk, never seeing the document she needed. She was about to leave for her meeting with Bo when a file caught her eye. She picked it up and opened it, her curiosity winning out over her conscience.
“Well, Nora, what could you be seeing Larry for?”, continuing to flip through the chart; looking for the latest entry, “Pregnant,” her eyes quickly scanning the rest of the file, her head knowing what she’d find; her heart praying she was wrong, “Nora Buchanan…gestation: 8 weeks…Due date: June 11, 2004…Father: Bo Buchanan…I knew it,” throwing the file down on the desk, “I knew he was with her that night.”
She thought back to the night Al had gotten sick. She had been looking all over for him; finally reaching him on his cell phone, which had been turned off…now she knows why. When he had finally arrived at the hospital, her familiar scent lingered on his clothing; mixing with the smell of the rain. She grabbed her purse off the chair and stormed out of Larry’s office; her reason for being there completely forgotten.
LPD:
Bo sits behind his desk waiting for Gabrielle to show up. This was going to be one of the hardest things he’s ever had to do but he has to do it; if only for the sake of his children. “His children,” he whispers to himself. After Drew’s death, and thinking that Matthew was Sam’s, he never thought he would be a father ever again. Now in a matter of six months he finds the son he thought he had lost and now has a second chance at being the supportive partner and parent he had wanted to be when Nora was pregnant with Matthew. Nothing’s going to stop him from doing what’s right, and following his heart is the right thing to do. He was brought out of his thoughts by the slamming of his office door...
“You bastard”, she spat as she threw her ring down on his desk, “Give that to Nora. I’m sure she’s who you really wanted to give it to. Now that she’s having your child I’m sure you can’t wait to be with her.”
“How did you find out?”
“Doesn’t matter how I found out. The only thing that matters is that I know the truth now. Is that why you asked me to come here? Were you going to tell me the truth or not?”
“Yes, I asked you to come down here so that I could tell you the truth…”, walking around to the front of his desk; leaning against it; maintaining distance between them.
“Which truth, Bo? The truth about the baby or the truth about Nora?”
“Both. I’m so…”
“No, don’t say you’re sorry, Bo” she suddenly becomes calm, her anger turning into pure hatred for the man who she was never good enough for, and for the woman who’ll always hold his heart, “I knew deep down it was Nora you wanted to be with. Our relationship changed the moment you found out that Matthew was your son. I hope the two of you will be very happy together.”
“Gabrielle, for what it’s worth I am sorry. I did want to give you what you wanted, there was just too much standing in our way.”
“Yes there was a lot standing in our way, your love for another woman being the main one.”
“I’m not sure what the future holds for Nora and me, but I know for our children’s sake we need to try and make it work.”
“Yes, our children deserve the best we can give them,” thinking about the sacrifice Max paid to save their son’s life.
“Take care of yourself, Gabrielle.”
“Oh, don’t you worry about me, Bo. I always bounce back.”
Bo just nodded as he watched her walk out the door. He picked up the phone and called the florist…
“Yes, this is Bo Buchanan…Good evening to you too…Yes; I’d like to order a bouquet of flowers…no I’ll write out the card myself when I pick them up...Thank you.”
He walks over to Marcie, who was filing the latest cases, “Marcie, I’m going to be heading out for the rest of the night. Antonio had my cell if there are any emergencies.”
“Okay, Commissioner, we’ll see you tomorrow.”
“I’ll be taking the day off tomorrow; a long weekend is in order I think.”
“Well have fun, Commissioner.”
“I will, Marcie.”, smiling as he walked away.
*~*~
Nora walked downstairs; after taking a much needed nap. She walked over to the entertainment center and flipped the radio on...
I believe in miracles
I believe in signs
And I believe that mountains move
One prayer at a time
If I could be an angel
I'd make your every wish come true
But I am only human
Just a woman
Lovin' you
She kneeled down in front of the entertainment center and pulled out the photo album that she had buried in the back of the drawer. She walked over and sat down on the couch, pulling her legs up under her. She opened the photo album and flipped through the memories; each one feeling as though they just happened yesterday. The dance contest that Valentine’s day...Their wedding day...Their fishing trip...
Where your road leads
I will follow
When your heart bleeds
I'll be there for you
When your night grows dark
And you can't find your tomorrow
Then you can follow me
Someday we'll look back and see
Our footprints in the sand
Sometimes you would carry me
And sometimes you'd be in my hands
Bo walked out of the florist carrying a huge bouquet of flowers; all her favorites…He smiled as he thought back to the day he had filled their house full of flowers...He could remember everything about their life together…and he can’t wait for the memories yet to be made…
If we can love forever
That won't be long enough for me
I want to hold you tender
Be your shelter
All you need
Where your road leads
I will follow
When your heart bleeds
I'll be there for you
When your night grows dark
And you can't find your tomorrow
Then you can follow me
Nora laid down on the couch; her hand instinctively lying across her stomach, the open photo album lying on the coffee table…dreaming of what the future may bring; knowing that nothing is standing in their way…
Oh, we can be each other's guiding light
Through this long and winding life
Where your road leads
I will follow
When your heart bleeds
I'll be there for you
When your night grows dark
And you can't find your tomorrow
When you've lost sight of your dreams
Then you can follow me
Bo made his way back to Nora’s thinking there was nothing standing in the way of his life with his family…
Or so they think…
