Chapter Forty Eight:

Everyone in the station watched as their boss made his way towards his office. He opened the door and switched on the light. He looked around the room and realized this was the last place he had seen them. The last place they had been together as a family. He ran his hand over the chair in front of his desk. He could still smell her perfume in the room; on the jacket that was still draped across the back of the chair she had sat in while feeding Madison. He walked around his desk and sat in his chair; immediately placing his face in his hands….

“Sir?”

Looking up, “Antonio, come on in.”

Closing the door, “We’ve got the preliminary reports back on the DNA match from the samples taken from the last rape victim.”

“So, did it link us to Troy?”

“No…”

Slams his hands down on the desk before standing up, “Why the hell not! She gave us a description of Troy…”

“Sir, it was, Colin…”

Talking at the same time as Antonio, “We have his description, we found…(turns and looks at Antonio) Wait, what did you just say?”

“It wasn’t Troy. It’s never been Troy. It’s been Colin all along.”

Sits down in disbelief, “Troy has been Colin all along?”

“I’m afraid so.”

More to himself then to Antonio, “The whole time she was with Troy she was really with Colin…”

“Sir, there’s more.”

“What?”

“We found blood in Colin’s car. (pauses) It was Nora’s.”

Bo grabs his jacket off the chair and walks out of his office. Antonio follows him in silence as they walk down the hallway towards the evidence room. Bo slams open the chainlink door and picks up the box off the table marked “Buchanan”. He takes the box and walks into one of the interrogation rooms and sets the box down on the table…

“Sir, maybe you should let the forensic guys finish up before you start looking through what they’ve collected.”

“No way, Antonio. This is my family we’re talking about. My wife and kids are with that maniac. He drugged and almost raped Nora once. He’s been living in this town for over three years pretending to be his twin brother. She almost married him, Antonio. I can’t even imagine what her life would’ve been like had she actually married him. I have to find them. I’m going to bring my family home…”

Bo spent the next few hours looking through everything they had collected from the loft and from inside the car….Pictures of Nora and the kids, Madison’s ultrasound picture, her birth announcement, their wedding announcement. He traced his hands over the newspaper article and picture of their wedding. He kept looking through the box, at first nothing giving him a clue as to wear Nora and the kids were taken, and then he found it…the one thing he was looking for…a map...a map to a remote cabin in the Canadian woods….

Bo boards Asa’s jet and within two hours is driving up the remote road towards the cabin….finally arriving; parking the car off to the side.

At the same time in the cabin…

Nora is sitting in one of the chairs beside the bed; holding Madison on her lap. She watches both of her children sleep; wondering what Bo was doing right now. She turns when she hears the key turning in the lock. She instinctively holds Madison a bit tighter and lays a protective arm across Matthews’s chest…

Walking towards them, “How’s my family doing this evening?”

“Don’t you mean my family, McGiver?”

Colin turns around and is met face to face with the barrel of Bo’s gun…..

Walking further into the room never taking the gun off of Colin, “Get away from them, Colin.”

“Ahhh…I see someone else has figured out my little secret.”

Ignores Colin for a moment and looks at Nora, “Are you okay?”

Smiling through her tears, “I am now.”

Slowly approaches Colin, “Yeah I know your little secret and you’re one sick and twisted son of a bitch.”

Bo nodded towards the door and Antonio and a few of the Canadian Mounted Police walked into the room.

Nora looked up at Bo their eyes saying a million things to each other. Bo just nodded his head, reassuring her as she looked down at the gun in his hand. A few minutes later Colin was handcuffed and on his way out of the room.

Bo places his gun back in his holster as he walks towards them. She had placed Madison in her carrier by the bed when Bo had first walked into the room. She stood up and tried to make her way over to Bo. Bo noticed that she was injured and his blood boiled in his veins, his hatred of Colin growing with every pained step she took.

She fell sobbing into his arms. He held her tight until they were both on the floor wrapped in each other’s arms…

Running his hands through her hair, “Shhh….it’s okay. It’s over. It’s all over….”

She picked her head up off his shoulder and he held her face in his hands; wiping the tears away with his thumbs. He brought his lips down onto hers and kissed her; a kiss filled with so much relief and so much love…They broke their kiss when they heard Matthew begin to stir…

Quietly, “Mommy?”

Crawling back towards the bed, “I’m right here, Matty.”

“I don’t feel so good, mommy.”

Before Nora could say anything or react Matthew started to shake; his whole body trembling. She watched as his eyes rolled back, just before he fell into unconsciousness.
