Chapter Thirty Two:
At the same time….
Bo’s office….
Bo looks up at Antonio as he contemplates what he just heard…
“Okay run that by me again. Troy McGiver was the only other person to visit him besides his lawyer?”
“That’s what it says
here, sir.”
{{phone rings}}
“Buchanan….Okay…Yes sir, I’ll be there in 10 minutes.”
“The mayor?”
“The one and only.”
“Good luck, Commissioner.”
Rolling his eyes, “Call McGiver and get him down here. I want to know why he was visiting our prisoner last night.”
“I’m on it, sir.”
Bo and Nora’s house….
The movements caused her to stir but she never awoke. The front door closed as quietly as it had opened as the intruder left as quietly as they had come. She continued to sleep the morning away only waking when the phone rang….
“Hello?....Hello?...Who’s there….”
“You really should remember to lock your doors, Nora. You never know who might walk in when you least expect it.”
“Who are you?...Hello?”
Nora hung up the phone and called *69….
“This is your last call return service…The number of your last incoming call is unavailable.”
“Damnit” she yells as she slams the phone down.
She walks over to the front door and noticed it was unlocked. She turned around and looked at the living room checking for signs of someone being in the room with her. She ran upstairs and got dressed. Thirty minutes later she was at the station….
“Hi, Ms. Buchanan.”
“Hi, Marcie, is the Commissioner in?”
“He’s in a meeting with the mayor. They’ve been in there for a while now.”
“Okay, um…could you tell him that I need to see him as soon as he’s free? Tell him it’s extremely important.”
“I will.”
“Thank you, Marcie. I’ll be in my office.”
Nora was so engrossed in the file that she was reading as she walked towards her office that she never saw him walking towards her until she bumped into him.
“Troy!”
“Nora you really shouldn’t read and walk at the same time.”
Sighs “What are you doing here, Troy?”
“Your Commissioner wanted to see me about something.”
Ignoring his comment, “Oh really?”
“Oh are you disappointed that I’m not here to see you? Why, Nora I’m flattered.”
“Don’t be.”
“You should be going Troy. You wouldn’t want to keep the Commissioner waiting.”
Troy sat down on the bench and waited for Bo to arrive. He watched her as she walked down the hallway and disappeared around the corner.
Nora’s office….
She sat behind her desk trying to get some work done, but she couldn’t get the phone call out of her mind. There was something familiar about the voice but she couldn’t place it. So many thoughts ran through her mind. She leaned her head back and placed her hands on her stomach….
“Well hey there little one. You’re certainly making your presence known today.” (glances at her watch) What is taking your daddy so long?”
Same time back at the station….
Bo walked back into the station feeling like he’d just gone 10 rounds. All he wanted to do was go home; soak in a hot tub with Nora; crawl into bed, with Nora, and forget this day ever happened. Thoughts of Nora brought a smile to his face which was quickly replaced with a frown when he looked across the room and saw Troy’s smug face. He started to approach Troy when Marcie calling his name caught his attention….
“Commissioner.”
“Yes, Marcie.”
“Um…Dr. McGiver is here to see you sir and Ms. Buchanan said she needs to see you right away. She said it was urgent.”
“Is she okay? Did she say what it was about?”
“No sir. She just said she needed to speak with you as soon as possible.”
“Okay. (sighs) Thank you, Marcie.”
Bo needed to talk to Troy but his first instinct was to go see Nora. He looked over and saw Troy sitting there, looking as smug as ever. He wanted to knock that look of his face for what he had put Nora through when they were together. He sighed and walked over to where Troy was seated.
“Dr. McGiver. This way please.”
Bo and Troy walked into Bo’s office. Antonio walked in and stood over in the corner. He knew Bo wanted to handle this himself.
“I have no idea what you could possibly want to talk to me about, Commissioner.”
“No idea, huh?”
“Nope not a one.”
“Did you know that the suspect in my shooting was found dead this morning in his cell, just a few hours after you left him?”
“I had no idea. My God that’s awful.”
“What were you doing visiting my prisoner so late at night?”
“Oh, well I received a message at the hospital that he wanted to see me, something about being in pain and needing something for it.”
“Who was this message from?”
“I assumed it was from his lawyer.”
Bo looks over at Antonio who nods and walks out the door….
“That’s all for now, Dr. McGiver. I’ll expect you to make yourself available if we need to speak again.”
“Absolutely.”
Troy walks out of Bo’s office and smirks. Bo sits behind his desk and picks up his phone….
“You’ve reached the voice mail of ADA Nora Buchanan, please leave a message after the tone.”
“Honey, it’s me. I guess you’re out of the office. I know Marcie said you wanted to talk to me, but since you’re not there, I’m going to head home. I’ll see you later. Love you.”
Bo hung up the phone, grabbed his jacket and headed out the door never noticing the person lurking in the hallway.
The side door to Bo’s office slowly opens…They walk towards Bo’s desk and pick up the picture of Bo and Nora. They run a gloved hand over her face before putting the picture back down on the desk….
“Soon, Nora, it’ll just be you, me and our baby.”
